The Hazardous Materials Planning Division (HMPD) permits and inspects hazardous material handling and hazardous waste-generating businesses to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. They apply their education, training, and experience in chemistry, manufacturing processes and industrial hygiene to identify and assess the use and storage of hazardous materials. These inspections ensure compliance with applicable laws or regulations and assist businesses with pollution prevention and waste reduction. HMPD personnel also investigate and resolve complaints alleging hazardous material and hazardous waste mismanagement.
Submit the Hazardous Materials Survey if you are a new or existing business within the City of Grand Rapids and would like a hazardous materials inspection to answer questions regarding environmental programs compliancy or safe storage and handling.
