Sanitary Relief Sewer in Public Easement (SE) from East Paris Ave to Patterson Ave
(Saddleback Sanitary Relief Sewer Contract #2)
PROJECT OVERVIEW – AUGUST 20, 2010
This $4,724,557.70 project was awarded to Jackson-Merkey Contractors, Inc. Work will begin or about May 17, 2010, and be substantially completed by the end of September 2010. Final clean-up and restoration will be done by the end of December 2010. This contract is one of four separate projects that will add capacity to the existing Saddleback Sanitary Sewer trunk line that services communities including Kentwood, Cascade, Ada, and Grand Rapids Township. The other three contracts have already been completed or will be completed this year.

Construction Progress:
- The contractor has installed about 75% of the 54" sanitary sewer in the eastern half of the project between East Paris and Patterson and crews will continue to work east toward Patterson.
- The contractor has completed work at some of the bore pit locations that are near the offices of Woodland Creek Apartments and are in the process of installing additonal earth retention systems at other bore pit locations so that pipe jacking operations can continue.
- With multiple crews working along the project route, the project remains on schedule.

Scope of Work:
• New 48-inch to 72-inch diameter sanitary sewer (a portion of the existing 21-inch sewer will be abandoned)
• Two crossings of Plaster Creek (creek flow will be maintained)
• By-pass pumping when necessary.
• Road reconstruction/repaving of areas disturbed
• Vegetative restoration in the upland and wetland areas which includes use of native varieties
• Restoration of all disturbed areas
Project Notes:
• All work is taking place in the City of Kentwood
• Limits extend from 3350 East Paris (no work in East Paris) to the north side of 28th Street (northwest corner of 28th Street and Patterson in front of the Hilton). There will be no traffic disruption to East Paris. There may be a lane closure only during work crossing 28th Street. Most work is in public easement areas between East Paris and Patterson.
• New sanitary sewer route will pass through parking areas and apartment units at Woodland Creek (vicinity of buildings 4009 – 4019; 4046-4050; and 3136 – 3138)
• Woodland Creek Drive will remain open to Woodland Creek Apartments.
• Woodbridge Drive will remain open
• Poplar Creek Drive at Woodbridge Drive will have traffic disruption for sanitary sewer and road reconstruction.
• Portions of Woodland Creek Drive, Woodbridge Drive and Poplar Creek Drive may be rotomilled and repaved, if necessary, following underground work.
• Pipe jacking will be used for sanitary sewer crossing under 28th Street; there will be a lane closure on 28th Street.
• Work at the Home Depot driveway to Patterson Ave will be completed during a 72 hour period after Labor Day
Other Construction Notes:
• No disruption to sanitary sewer or any other utility is anticipated
• Construction will be between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. average 56 hours per week
