Departments

    Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation offers a variety of fitness classes for all fitness levels. Participants are encouraged to work at their own fitness level in a non-competitive atmosphere.

    All our instructors are certified by one or more of the following certifying bodies, including, Ace, AFAA, Powerflex, PiYo, Turbo Kick, Yoga, and Zumba. Class structure and music are in accordance with the standards set by the industry. Please enjoy the individuality of each instructor.

    Fitness Opportunities

    To teach fitness classes for the Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation Department you are required to have and to maintain a certification with AFAA or ACE. In addition, you are required to have a certification in the class that you would like to teach. For example:

    Yoga:  YogaFit or another Yoga certification
    Pilates:  Mat Science or another Pilates certification
    Kickboxing:  Turbokick

    Adult Fitness Survey

    We are very interested in your opinion regarding our adult fitness classes. If you are currently participating in one or more of our fitness classes please download the Adult Fitness Evaluation Form and e-mail it to jjudnich@ci.grand-rapids.mi.us or fax it to the Parks & Recreation Department at (616) 456-4561.
